Want more? Sign up for my weekly newsletter I had been considering a self-nomination for the Drupal Association At-Large Board Seat a few times. This year, I decided to throw my hat into the ring. I’ve been a bit busy with baseball season kicking off (three kids, three teams 🫠) that I haven’t written a blog yet, but I will, explaining why I’ve considered now the right time. I’d love to answer any questions or receive any feedback before the community forums and use it to create a follow-up blog post. You can contact me via my website, Bluesky, or Drupal Slack.
What made me decide to self-nominate this year? The marketplace. People want to build on a platform where they can make money. Right now, Drupal provides limited monetary streams for developers. While I firmly believe that Drupal is an excellent platform for building a software-as-a-service solution, more folks are picking Laravel or Symfony. We need to provide a way for developers to generate income with Drupal beyond time and material project builds. And in ways that grow adoption of the platform itself. Four years ago, I wrote Solving open source funding through gated releases wondering how we could sustainably fund open source development. I believe being elected to the Drupal Association At-Large Board Seat can help guide the implementation of the marketplace. I’d love to see a marketplace that provides revenue streams for independent developers or small agencies. I’d love to see this marketplace then offer easy solutions that grow the adoption of Drupal.
